Jaymes Schmidt

Jaymes Schmidt is a Master of Applied Science student who specializes in the field of mechanical engineering. After graduating from the University of British Columbia Okanagan with a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering in 2020, he gained work experience in the oil and gas industry until 2023. His career ambitions have shifted toward the biomedical industry, where he is currently working on surgical training tools for Inflatable Prosthetic Penile (IPP) implants. By developing a low-cost manufacturing platform that simulates human tissue mechanical properties, his research will ultimately be used by surgeons to train for IPP implants to improve their skills in this area. This could ultimately provide a higher degree of implant success.

Jaymes’ research interests are in rheology principles and applications, tissue engineering, and polymer mechanical properties.

In addition to Jaymes Schmidt, there is a team of undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. students that work with him to improve the IPP implant. This dedicated team collaborates in the Heart Valve Performance Laboratory at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, Kelowna BC. They are under the supervision of Dr. Hadi Mohammadi and lab manager and Ph.D. student Dylan Goode.
