Emre Kermen

Emre Kermen was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. He came to Canada to complete his Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at UBC Okanagan. Biomedical engineering sparked his interest during the initial years of his undergraduate degree, but he was set to get more involved in the field during his 4th year of studies. He is currently working towards a Master of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Emre’s research is on creating an engineering procedure to manufacture custom-orthotics that are synthesized out of the novel hydro-gel biomaterial created in the Heart Valve Performance Laboratory. His current academic interests outside orthotics include the cardiovascular field, specifically prosthetic heart valves, numerical methods such as finite element methods. Outside his academics, he enjoys camping, hiking, cliff jumping and bouldering.
